miRNA–mRNA Integrated Analysis Reveals Roles for miRNAs in a Typical Halophyte, Reaumuria soongorica, during Seed Germination under Salt Stress

Abstract: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are endogenous small RNAs that play a crucial role in plant growth, development, and environmental stress responses. Reaumuria soongorica is a typical halophyte that is widely distributed in saline–alkali desert regions. Under salt stress, R. soongorica can complete germination, a critical biological process in the life cycle of seed plants. To identify miRNAs and predict target mRNAs involved in seed germination during salt stress, nine small-RNA libraries were constructed and analyzed from… Show more

“…In a typical halophyte, Reaumuria soongorica, 13 novel miRNAs were discovered under salt stress. miRNA-mRNA integrated analysis revealed that miRNAs regulate the network response to salt stress during seed germination through GA, auxin, and ABA signaling pathways (Zhang H. et al, 2020). In addition, a comparative transcriptome analysis revealed some new lncRNAs in sweet sorghum, including lncRNA13472, lncRNA11310, lncRNA2846, lncRNA26929, and lncRNA14798.…”

“…Reaumuria soongorica is a typical perennial salt-yielding halophytic shrub, which shows strong adaptability to saline and desert soils, and is a representative dominant species in salt-alkali desert areas of grassland ecosystems. This species plays a crucial role in stabilizing shifting sands, thereby helping to prevent soil erosion and desertification 17 . Further, the R. soongorica community provides a good pasture in desert areas 18 , with excellent soil improvement effects 19 .…”

“…14). Of the 15 identified mun-miRs, miR 156, miR 171 and miR 390 were found to be differentially expressed in germinating seeds of halophyte Reaumuria soongorica under salt stress conditions (54). Legume genomes are rich in SNPs.…”
