MiRNA-93: a novel signature in human disorders and drug resistance

Abstract: AbstractmiRNA-93 is a member of the miR-106b-25 family and is encoded by a gene on chromosome 7q22.1. They play a role in the etiology of various diseases, including cancer, Parkinson’s disease, hepatic injury, osteoarthritis, acute myocardial infarction, atherosclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and chronic kidney disease. Different studies have found that this miRNA has opposing roles in the context of cancer. Recently, miRNA-93 has been downregulated in breast cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, pancrea… Show more

“…Nevertheless, efficacy decreased due to the emergence of drug resistance (Cao et al, 2021;He et al, 2022). More and more studies add up to the statement that miRNAs feature in cancer development and drug resistance (Hussen et al, 2023). Here, miR-503-5p was found to be highly expressed in LUAD, indicating that it featured in the biological process of LUAD progression.…”

“…During kidney injury, there can be an upregulation of miR-93, leading to decreased PTEN levels and subsequent alterations in cell mir-93/AKT/mTOR signaling pathways. These changes may impact the overall injury and repair processes in the kidney [ 58 ]. It is worth noting that the study of miRNAs in kidney injury is an active area of research, and ongoing investigations continue to shed light on their specific roles and potential therapeutic implications.…”

“…These molecules can act as either oncogenes or tumor suppressors. Ongoing studies are rapidly expanding our knowledge of these altered miRNAs in various human cancers, including lung, liver, and breast cancer ( 96 ). For example, activation of miR-31 has been identified as a mechanism that promotes mammary stem cell expansion and breast tumor development by inhibiting Wnt signaling antagonists ( 97 ).…”
