miR-27a Downregulation Promotes Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma Progression via Targeting EGFR

Abstract: Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is the second common malignant cancer around the worldwide and is etiologically linked to ultraviolet radiation. miRNAs play an important role in the initiation and progression of cancers. However, the functions of miRNAs in cSCC remain to be elucidated. Here, we screened and identified miR-27a as a consistently downregulated miRNA after UVB irradiation in HaCaT cells. It was found that miR-27a expression was significantly decreased in cSCC cells and tissues. in vitro a… Show more

“…In CRC, a number of studies have confirmed that some molecules, such as MyD88, SREBP1, and CXCL5, promoted CRC cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and tumor growth through NF-κB activation ( Chen et al, 2019 ; Gao et al, 2019 ; Zhu et al, 2020 ). In addition, there were biological crosstalks between the NF-κB pathway and other signaling pathways, such as the EGFR pathway ( Wang et al, 2019 ). NF-κB inhibitors have been exploited and studied for a long time, mainly proteasome blockers and IKK inhibitors.…”

“… 22 , 23 Wang et al found that low-expressed miR-27a promoted tumor growth and metastasis by targeting EGFR, and miR-27a may play an important role in the process of CSCC. 24 miR-196a is an abnormally expressed miRNA that is common in cancer research. He Xin reported abnormal high expression of miR-196a in colorectal cancer.…”

“…The upregulated miR-142-5p induced cancer stem cell-like properties in a cSCC via the direct regulation of PTEN [ 6 ]. MiR-27a directly bound to EGFR, leading to the inactivation of the NF-κB pathway and the inhibition of cSCC cell growth [ 7 ].…”
