MiR-25-3p targets PTEN to regulate the migration, invasion, and apoptosis of esophageal cancer cells via the PI3K/AKT pathway

Abstract: Background: Esophageal cancer (EC) is one of the most common malignant tumors of the digestive system. MiR-25-3p was proved to be a biomarker for the diagnosis and treatment of many cancers. MiR-25-3p was found to be high expressed in the blood of EC patients. The aim of this study was to explore the effect of miR-25-3p and its target gene on EC. Methods: miR-25-3p expression in the blood of EC patients and EC cells was detected by RT-qPCR. The target of miR-25-3p was identified by bioinformatics and luciferas… Show more

“…Thereby, it inhibits cell growth, survival, and cell migration and acts as a tumor suppressor. In this context, lack of PTEN in glioblastoma (Davidson et al, 2010 ), in gastric cancer (Ma et al, 2017 ), and in other cancers (Coronel-Hernandez et al, 2019 ; Hu et al, 2019 ; Zhang et al, 2020 ) was correlated with enhanced migration and invasion. Several studies revealed inhibition of the catalytic activity of PTEN by ROS thereby allowing prolonged signaling for cell survival, proliferation, and migration.…”

“…MiR-25 promotes metastasis of ESCC by targeting Fbxw7 and E-cadherin signaling pathways ( Hua et al, 2017 ). miR-25-3p targeted Pten through PI3K/Akt pathway to regulate EC migration, invasion, and apoptosis ( Zhang et al, 2020 ). MiR-93-5p and miR-324-5p are also reported to be an oncogene in many cancers, such as non-small-cell lung carcinoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, prostate cancer, and cervical cancer ( Wu et al, 2014 ; Xiang et al, 2017 ; Yang et al, 2019 ; Vila-Navarro et al, 2020 ).…”

“…miR-25-3p is well-characterized in cancers. Of note, miR-25-3p is upregulated and plays an oncogenic role in various types of cancer, such as pancreatic (16), breast (17), esophageal (18), gastric cancer (19) and osteosarcoma (20). The present study investigated exosomal miRNAs from TMZ-resistant GBM cells.…”
