miR‑217‑5p regulates myogenesis in skeletal muscle stem cells by targeting FGFR2

Abstract: has been implicated in cell proliferation; however, its role in skeletal muscle stem cells (SkMScs) remains unknown. The present study aimed to explore the roles of mir-217-5p in the biological characteristics of SkMSCs. SkMSCs were identified by cell surface markers using flow cytometry. The present study observed that mir-217-5p mimics accelerated the proliferation and suppressed the differentiation in SkMScs. in addition, the results of the present study revealed that fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 (FG… Show more

“…It was therefore inferred that the up-regulated expression of circ_008092 in Longissimus dorsi muscle of LC goats may be responsible for its higher carcass weight and intramuscular fat content. Our target miRNAs prediction also found that circ_003628 would sponge either miR-217-5p positively related to skeletal muscle cell proliferation [49], or miRNAs positively related to skeletal muscle cell differentiation, including miR-1 [50], miR-26a [51], miR-27b [52] and miR-148a-3p [53]. These suggests that the lower expression of circ_003628 in LC goats may contribute to its higher meat production performance by less inhibition of the expression levels of these important miRNAs.…”

“…The miR-127-3p has been reported to inhibit proliferation of C2C12 myoblast ( 50 ), as well as proliferation and differentiation of porcine skeletal muscle satellite cells ( 51 ). Similarly, miR-217-5p and miR-487b-3p inhibited the differentiation of skeletal muscle cells in rats ( 52 ) and mice ( 53 ), respectively. Additionally, the inhibition of miR-410-3p on the differentiation of adipocyte by targeting IRS-1 has also been reported in humans ( 54 ).…”

“…Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor 2 (FGFR2) was a member of FGFRs, which are a family of receptor tyrosine kinases expressed on the cell membrane that play crucial roles in both developmental and adult cells [42]. FGFR2 has been proved to regulate the myogenesis of skeletal muscle [43,44]. ACTN2 was highly expressed in muscle where it acted as a major structural component of the contractile apparatus at the Z-line [45].…”
