MiR-130a-3p suppresses colorectal cancer growth by targeting Wnt Family Member 1 (WNT1)

Abstract: The microRNA miR-130a-3p (miR-130a-3p) has anti-tumor activity against numerous cancer types. Further, miR-130a-3p may target Wnt signaling, which is a critical pathway regulating tumorigenesis. Functions of miR-130a-3p in colorectal cancer (CRC) and contributions of Wnt1 pathway modulation, however, have not been examined, hence the exploration on these two aspects. In this study, in comparison with normal controls, both CRC tissue and multiple CRC cell lines showed downregulated miR-130a-3p. MiR-130a-3p over… Show more

“…Roman-Canal et al also reported a reduction in the level of this miRNA in the study of extracellular vesicles from the peritoneal lavage of EC patients (Roman-Canal et al 2019). MiR-130a-3p is believed to have anti-cancer properties as described in colorectal cancer (Song et al 2021), breast cancer (Kong et al 2018;Poodineh et al 2020), gastric cancer (Jiang et al 2015), 2021) also found that miR-130a-3p may promote proliferation and invasions in cervical cancer. In our study, a low activity was also observed for miR-130b-3p, miR-4319, and miR-379-5p in the early stage of endometrial cancer, which may be associated with the highest EDN1 expression in G1 cancer.…”

“…High IRAK1 expression found in CRC is associated with poor prognosis and by suppressing IRAK1 expression it inhibits migration and invasiveness of CRC (Hozaka et al, 2021). MiR-130a-3p expression is low in normal colon tissues, but higher in CRC, and overexpression miR-130a-3p inhibits colorectal cancer cell proliferation (Song et al, 2021).…”

“…Both metabolites upregulated the expression of hsa‐miR‐130a‐3p and hsa‐miR‐625‐5p which have tumor suppressor properties. [ 39,40 ] Thus, the miRNAs upregulated in response to DHPAA and/or HPPA may exert anti‐carcinogenic effects. In the present study, the biological role of aberrantly expressed miRNAs was predicted using a pathway enrichment analysis, where many of the significantly enriched pathways in response to DHPAA and HPPA were in fact implicated in cancer.…”
