MiR‐122 inhibits epithelial mesenchymal transition by regulating P4HA1 in ovarian cancer cells

Abstract: Ovarian cancer is one of the most common gyneacologic malignancies, with high morbidity and high mortality. Hsa-miR-122-5p (miR-122) has been reported with tumor-suppressing roles in various cancers. In this study, miR-122 was overexpressed in ovarian cancer cells, and phenotypic experiments demonstrated that miR-122 inhibited migration and invasion in SKOV3 and OVCAR3 cells. MiR-122 also suppressed epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT), evidenced by expression changes of E-cadherin, vimentin, matrix metallo… Show more

“…miR-122 inhibited epithelial mesenchymal transition by regulating P4HA1 expression in OC cells [43]. In addition, miR-122 regulated LHCGR expression, which was crucial for mediating LH action in growing follicles via modulating LRBP levels during FSH-induced follicle growth [96]. miR-122 has been shown to increase LHR mRNA levels by modulating the expression of LRBP through the regulation of SREBP activation, which was crucial for regulating key reproductive processes, such as ovulation and CL function [97].…”

“…Additionally, high P4HA1 expression is a poor prognostic factor for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (51), oral squamous cell carcinoma (52), and prostate cancer (53). In ovarian cancer P4HA1 promotes migration, invasion, EMT and metastasis formation (54). In glioma, P4HA1 promotes the transdifferentiation of glioma stem cells into endothelial cells leading to the formation of vascular basement membranes (55) and has been considered as a prognostic marker for high-grade glioma (56).…”

“…miR-122 has been reported as a tumor-inhibiting factor in variety of human cancers ( 29 ). An increasing amount of evidence suggests that miR-122-5p is significantly downregulated, and inhibits cell proliferation and metastasis in numerous types of cancer, including nasopharyngeal carcinoma ( 30 ), hepatocellular carcinoma ( 31 ) and bile duct carcinoma ( 32 ).…”
