MiR-10a, 27a, 34b/c, and 300 Polymorphisms are Associated with Ischemic Stroke Susceptibility and Post-Stroke Mortality

Abstract: A recent study of the ischemic stroke described the roles played by miRNAs in the downregulation of specific cell-cycle gene expression and it is thought to require the development of biomarkers for the prognostic of ischemic stroke. Here, we hypothesized that four miRNA polymorphisms (miR-10a, miR-27a, miR-34b/c, and miR-300) may affect stroke susceptibility and mortality. Blood samples were collected from 530 patients and 403 controls. Genetic polymorphisms were detected by polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-re… Show more

“…Our results suggest that each drug treatment regulated miRNAs distinctively from OGD, and in addition to two common miRNAs, miR-501-3p and miR-1959, each drug has its distinct set of miRNAs that may confer protection to WM against ischemic injury. It is of particular importance that miR-487b, miR-376b, and miR-27a, a set of miRNAs regulated by MS-275 in WM, had been previously reported to be regulated in GM ischemic stroke models (Alvarez et al, 2015;Feng et al, 2015;He et al, 2018;Jickling et al, 2014;Ryu et al, 2020). These miRNAs may be common targets to protect both GM and WM structure and function.…”

“… 75 Other studies have linked genetic polymorphisms of miRNAs to stroke recurrence. 76 , 77 This means that there is no direct relation between significant expression of specific miRNA and disease outcome, and there are still unknown mechanisms which play a significant role in miRNAs’ profiling along the course of the disease.…”

“…In this study, the sample size was calculated based on a power of 0.90 (Power = 1 − β) while the probability of type I error (α) was set at 0.05 for medium effect size [ 15 ]. The software procedure was according to previous studies [ 16 ].…”
