Convergence of community social work practice, collective impact, and design thinking: What, why, and how?

“…Importantly, recent as well as historical scholarship on community practice goes beyond the notion of cultural humility to address sources of structural racism and oppression and calls for movement building for collective liberation (Carruthers, 2018). For example, after acknowledging how the social work profession has perpetuated racism and calling for new models of community practice and partnership to address pressing racial justice issues (Santiago & Ivery, 2020), the Journal of Community Practice published a special issue in 2021 titled “Beyond Lip Service: Bringing Racial Justice to Black and Brown communities.” The issue included several articles examining promising community practice approaches to advancing racial justice, including models for developing authentic university–community partnerships (Chupp et al, 2021) and cultivating community leadership for racial equity (Douglas-Glenn et al, 2021).…”
