Minor Tooth Movements Using Microimplant Anchorage: Case Reports

Abstract: For the treatment of extruded or tipped molars, various conventional techniques have been used. But those methods may lead to undesirable movement of the anchorage units and lengthen treatment time because of limited tooth-borne anchorage potential. Introduction of microimplants as orthodontic anchorage has expanded treatment possibilities because of their advantages. Some advantages are a less complex surgical procedure, decrease in cost, immediate loading, and their ability to be placed in any area of the al… Show more

“…However, molar intrusion is considered rather difficult due to resistance at the furcation and interradicular area [2]. To intrude overerupted molars, traditional methods such as conventional fixed appliances and high-pull headgear are limited by multiple factors such as patients’ compliance, discomfort and anchorage loss [3], [4]. In contrast, therapy for overerupted molars in hyperdivergent patients with scissor-bite using traditional orthodontic treatment is a significant challenge.…”

“…It is a predictable option with fewer side effects. [45] Recent studies have revealed that the average intrusion of maxillary molars is between 3 and 4 mm and a combination of single miniscrew implant and fixed appliance (partial) is a predictable and effective procedure to achieve maxillary molar intrusion. [47] No definite consensus exists as to where the miniscrew implant should be placed (buccal or palatal) if a single screw is used for maxillary first molar intrusion.…”

“…Molar uprighting requires good anchorage control, and subsequently, a full-arch fixed appliance is necessary. Furthermore, ankylosed teeth, dental implants, and extraoral appliances could also be effective, enhancing anchorage, and protecting from undesirable tooth movements [ 8 , 10 ].…”
