Minor Steroidal Triglycoside Planciside D from the Tropical Starfish Acanthaster planci

Abstract: A new steroidal glycoside called planciside D was isolated from the tropical starfish Acanthaster planci and assigned the structure (. Planciside D was a triglycoside containing two carbohydrate chains, which are rarely found in starfish. Its structure was established using 2D NMR spectroscopy and tandem mass spectrometry with electrospray ionization (ESI).Keywords: starfish, Acanthaster planci, glycoside, steroidal aglycon, NMR spectroscopy.Glycosides of polyhydroxysteroids and asterosaponins are the most com… Show more

“…The unsubstituted β ‐ d ‐galactofuranose residue at C‐28 ( 164 ) or C‐29 ( 163 ) of the side chains was found in starfish steroidal glycosides for the first time. Compounds 165 and 166 were generated by the starfish Choriaster granulatus and Acanthaster planci , respectively. Compound 166 was a triglycoside containing two carbohydrate chains, which are rarely found in starfish .…”

“…Compounds 165 and 166 were generated by the starfish Choriaster granulatus and Acanthaster planci , respectively. Compound 166 was a triglycoside containing two carbohydrate chains, which are rarely found in starfish . The starfish Lethasterias fusca yielded compounds 167 – 168 and they were a rather scarce structural group of natural glycosylated steroidal polyols containing monosaccharide residues attached to both O‐3 and O‐24 atoms of the aglycon .…”
