Minimum inhibitory concentrations of cephalosporin compounds and their active metabolites for selected mastitis pathogens

Abstract: Differences in inhibition between parent compounds and their active metabolites may be responsible for some of the variation between clinical outcomes and results of in vitro susceptibility tests.

“…These results are in agreement with data from the literature and confirm the good in vitro activity of cephapirin against Staph. aureus (Salmon et al 1997;Guérin-Faublée et al 2003;Cortinhas et al 2013). Based on its good in vitro activity, the intramammary administration of cephapirin should be a useful tool in controlling clinical and subclinical mastitis.…”

“…Results for peracetic acid, sodium hypochlorite, and iodine solutions were summarized by calculating the MIC 50 and MIC 90 as described by Cortinhas et al (2013), where MIC 50 and MIC 90 indicate MIC required to inhibit growth of 50% and 90% of the isolates, respectively. Survival analysis was used to determine whether the sanitizers had different MIC.…”
