Minimum 3.5-year outcomes of operative treatment for Achilles tendon partial tears in the midportion and retrocalcaneal area

Abstract: Background: Achilles tendon partial tears are not easy to diagnose and to manage. Most frequently, they are located in the midportion and insertional area. These entities result from different pathologic pathways and different treatment strategies are applied. The outcome is rarely investigated. Methods: This study includes patients who underwent surgery for partial tears in the midportion or retrocalcaneal Achilles tendon area between the years 2009 and 2015 by a single surgeon. Patients were prospectively a… Show more

“…The reliability of Chinese VISA-A was compatible with different studies on crosscultural adaptation of VISA-A in other languages. 3,[7][8][9][10]12,14,16 Spearman correlation coefficients of Chinese VISA-A with SF-36 subscales confirmed the construct validity (Table 4). As VISA-A was a specific scale for Achilles tendinopathy, it was expected that there would be relatively high correlations with certain relevant subscales of SF-36, including physical function and bodily pain.…”

“…It is presumable that this might not affect patient outcomes, as seen in a recent study about a late minimally invasive Achilles tendon repair after 14 days [ 42 ]. Irrespective of the anatomic locations, there might be no relevant symptom improvement 3 months postoperatively, but there may be after 6–12 months with no deterioration after years [ 43 ].…”
