Minimization of torque ripple in switched reluctance motor based on MPC and TSF

Abstract: In this paper, a novel control method based on model predictive control (MPC) and torque sharing function (TSF) is addressed to minimize the torque ripple of switched reluctance motor (SRM). Firstly, an accurate SRM model is established based on flux‐linkage characteristic curves obtained from the locked rotor test, which can predict the future operation state of the SRM drive system. Secondly, an improved TSF curve is proposed, and genetic algorithm is used to optimize TSF parameters to reduce torque ripple i… Show more

“…Multiple industrial control systems have been used to study the development of SMC approaches [23][24][25][26]. Minimization of torque ripple in switched reluctance motor based on Model Predictive Control (MPC) and Torque Sharing Function (TSF) was conducted in [27]. A novel continuous terminal SMC technique has been devised to ensure that the system states reach the sliding surface in a finite amount of time.…”

“…This accelerates the excitation and demagnetization of the commutation region and thus, fast torque tracking is achieved. Reference [70] proposes a direct instantaneous torque control method for SRM based on the optimal angle adaptive TSF. Reference [71] uses the dynamic shapeless TSF to improve the system efficiency in SRM torque control.…”

“…In addition, the higher the speed and the shorter the commutation time, the greater the torque ripple. Therefore, the TSF control is more suitable for low and medium speed SRMs [22, 23].…”

“…However, the harmonic current will increase the copper loss and the system efficiency will also be reduced. Some references also proposed to use TSF control to reduce the torque ripple [20,21]. This method does not need to adjust the function according to the number of stator and rotor poles, nor does it generate negative torque which reduces the efficiency of the system.…”
