“…However, a number of the articles in this review [4,11,13,14,17,25,28,30,36,38,27,39] included patients for MIRPE with a PSI <3.2 or included no assessment of PSI [5,6,8,9,12,16,18,20,23,24,32,33]. This may reflect the fact that eccentric or barrel-chest deformations can lead to a 'false PSI calculation' of less than 3.2.…”

“…Such a 'minimally invasive' approach has proven to be extremely popular amongst patients and thoracic surgeons, despite limited reports on outcomes. Given that the primary motive for most patients seeking surgical correction is concern for their physical appearance and its social acceptability, it is not surprising that smaller scars located away from the most visible areas of the chest wall are most preferred [5]. A large number of institutions have reported their results with MIRPE, but few have reported outcomes that are relevant to the concerns, which led the patient to undergo such surgery, and even fewer give long-term results following bar removal.…”

“…It is generally believed that Nuss procedure is not suitable for children of low age. The main reason is worrying about the high recurrence rate caused by early operation [1,2], but in practice, other reasons cannot be ignored. Copyright: ©2018 Wang W. “…However, due to the higher recurrence rate and other disadvantages, the procedure is considered unsuitable for low age patients [1,2]. Since most of the children are found to have pectus excavatum shortly after birth, and their families want to complete the operation as soon as possible, it is necessary to design a new procedure to get these children treated.…”

“…The minimally invasive surgical correction of PE was described by Dr. Donald Nuss and is characterized by the insertion of a metal pre-bent metal bar through two axillary incisions in the retro-sternal space where it remains in place for two to three years [4]. The anterior chest concavity is evident in patients with the malformation, affecting mainly the lower third of the sternum and ribs than the upper two thirds [5].…”
