Minimally invasive mitral valve surgery is associated with excellent resource utilization, cost, and outcomes

Abstract: In a real-world cohort, mini-MVR continues to demonstrate excellent results with a favorable resource utilization profile. Greater surgical and implant costs with mini-MVR are offset by decreased transfusions and ancillary needs leading to equivalent overall hospital cost.

“…The application rate for endoscopic mitral surgery by handheld instrument can range from 21% to 66%. 25,32,33 Fortunately, several of the limitation factors of handheld instrument endoscopic mitral surgery can be addressed with robotics. The dynamic endoscope and retractor facilitate exposure as does approaching the valve more laterally.…”
