Sulfonamide and its derivatives have made great contributions to medicine and can be used to synthesize sulfonamides‐based antibacterial drugs. However, improper treatment of the sulfonamides may bring severe environmental pollutions. In this paper, the density functional theory (DFT) calculation method was used to study the adsorption properties and degradation mechanism of sulfonamide on different surfaces of titanium dioxide (TiO2), i. e. TiO2 (101) and TiO2 (001). First, by calculating the adsorption energy, we obtained the most stable adsorption configurations of sulfonamide on different TiO2 surfaces. In both cases, the sulfonamides lie parallel on the surfaces of TiO2 and the amino group attached directly to the benzene ring forms hydrogen bonds with the oxygens on the surfaces of the TiO2 while the sulfonyl groups interact with the titanium of the surfaces. After that, six possible degradation pathways were investigated in detail based on the stable configurations. According to the calculation results, we conclude that the optimal degradation path of sulfonamide on TiO2 surface is the path initialized by attacking carbon atom attached to the sulfonyl group in sulfonamide with hydroxyl radical, for which the reaction barrier on TiO2 (001) surface is 13.8 kcal/mol, and that of TiO2 (101) surface is 13.1 kcal/mol. Therefore, the degradation effects of the two surfaces are similar. Our present work indicates that the effect of TiO2 in degrading sulfonamide is remarkable, which provides a theoretical basis for the subsequent development of the degradation method of sulfonamides‐based antibiotics.

Pusan National University Children’s Hospital (PNUCH) opened in November 2008 as the second National Children’s Hospital in Korea and celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2018. In the last decade, birth rates and pediatric populations have been declining sharply and has been more serious in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongsangnam-do where the PNUCH is located, affecting the prevalence of index diseases. The number of the index diseases was investigated by year according to changes in the population. Patients who underwent surgery at PNUCH for 10 years were included. Changes in pediatric population and the number of live births were analyzed using the data from Statistics Korea. The number of the index diseases was analyzed retrospectively through the review of electronic medical records. Statistical analysis was performed through Poisson regression. The number of live births and pediatric population decreased from 69,528 to 48,600 (30.1%) and 1,880,284 to 1,444,961 (23.2%), respectively. Operations of pediatric surgery decreased by 32.3% compared to that during the peak season, but the prevalence rate ratio of the pediatric population increased to 1.03 (<i>P</i><0.001). The number of emergency operation increased due to the largest surge in acute appendicitis operations. Both esophageal atresia and Hirschsprung disease decreased, while hypertrophic pyloric stenosis significantly increased. The absolute number of pediatric surgery cases decreased. However, considering the changes in pediatric population and the number of live births, the relative number of pediatric surgery cases does not changed. The decrease in the number of each disease would be related to the decrease in pediatric population and the number of live births. We should consider the increase of emergency operations such as acute appendicitis.

SyntheSiS of the nickel-cobalt-ManganeSe cathode Material USing recycled nickel aS PrecUrSorS froM Secondary batterieSAs the amount of high-capacity secondary battery waste gradually increased, waste secondary batteries for industry (highspeed train & HeV) were recycled and materialization studies were carried out. The precipitation experiment was carried out with various conditions in the synthesis of LiNi 0.6 Co 0.2 mn 0.2 o 2 material using a Taylor reactor. The raw material used in this study was a leaching solution generated from waste nickel-based batteries.The nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCm) precursor was prepared by the Taylor reaction process. material analysis indicated that spherical powder was formed, and the particle size of the precursor was decreased as the reaction speed was increased during the preparation of the NCm. The spherical NCm powder having a particle size of 10 µm was synthesized using reaction conditions, stirring speed of 1000 rpm for 24 hours. The NCm precursor prepared by the Taylor reaction was synthesized as a cathode material for the LiB, and then a coin-cell was manufactured to perform the capacity evaluation.
