Minimal Invasive Cystometry and Intra-Abdominal Pressure Assessments in Rodents: A Novel Animal Study

Abstract: BackgroundThe abdominal straining pattern can act as a novel parameter for improving the prediction of bladder outlet obstruction (BOO). To preserve detrusor function in the early stage of urinary system impairment, such as BOO, we establish a novel method for cystometry and Intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) assessments in rodents without cystostomy.Material/MethodsTwenty mice and rats were divided into three groups (control, sham-operated and BOO group) respectively. The cystometry and IAP assessments were measu… Show more

“…We used polypropylene suture to create the UMS model to ensure scientific truthfulness because this suture is primarily used in cardiovascular surgery, exhibits low tissue reactivity, and improved biostability properties, and is not corroded by urine . In addition, different saline infusion rates have been described for mouse urodynamics, ranging from 0.6 to 3 mL/h . A moderate rate of infusion (2 mL/h) was used in our studies because this rate simulates the process of urine formation.…”

“…The cystometry and pressure-flow parameters were acquired as described previously. 24,25 Briefly, cystometric investigations were conducted 4 weeks postsurgery in urethane-anesthetized (1.2 g/kg, i.p.) rats.…”
