Minimal deviation adenocarcinoma of the uterine cervix: A case report

Abstract: Minimal deviation adenocarcinoma (MDA) of the uterine cervix is a rare disease. The rate of misdiagnosis is relatively high and there is no standard treatment. A 58-year-old woman presented with an abnormal Pap smear revealing atypical glandular cells and vaginal mucoid discharge. Cervical biopsy revealed cervicitis and an endometrium with atypical glands and increasing mitoses. A frozen section of curetted endometrial tissue revealed adenocarcinoma. “…Radiography has limited role and identification of these glands as the reported cases of MDS cervix showed mixed solid and cystic patterns [9][10][11][12][13][14]. Guo et al [10] described multiple cervical cysts in the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of a more conventional case of MD cervix [10].…”

“…The 2 patients were supplemented with CCRT after the surgery. The follow-up of the patient with MDA who underwent a series of medical interventions, such as total hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, lymph node dissection, and postoperative CCRT rather than extensive hysterectomy, showed an ideal prognosis [26]. A total of 18 patients with MDA were once classified into the early stage (FIGO IB1/IB2, 88.8%) and advanced stage (FIGO III/IV, 11.1%), which indicated that despite the difficulty in diagnosing timely and precisely, the majority of the patients can be detected in their early stages [27].…”

“…MDA tanısında servikal sitoloji kullanışlı değildir. Literatürde servikal sitoloji uygulanmış olan 135 vakanın yalnızca 34 tanesinde (%25.1) smearde prekanseröz veya kanseröz bulgular vardı (7,(8)(9)(10). Sunduğumuz vakada da servikal sitoloji normaldi.…”
