“…No only did the authors make no reference to previous publications about the same technique, they made no mention of the results of the ''100 repairs'' while extolling all the virtues imaginable. Indeed, dating back to 1999, exactly the same technique was clearly illustrated in our article in Surgical Endoscopy [2]. Novel innovation pertaining to commonplace surgery such as hernia repair is an emotive subject.…”

“…To minimize excessive wound stretching (and pain), we started, subsequently, with making an incision 2.5-3 cm long. Compared to standard repair via a 6-cm incision, wound pain did appear lessened as detected by a subtle test [2]; however, a latter study showed that there was no statistical difference in the overall postoperative pain score between the minihernia repair group and a case-controlled group of Lichtenstein hernioplasty patients as assessed by a trained nurse blinded to the procedure type using the visual analog scale on postoperative day 1. Also, the operative time did not differ significantly between the two groups, as the time shortened by using a stapler was offset by increased time spent on the more difficult herniotomy through the limited access.…”

“…and Park et al 4,5 are just slightly smaller than our traditional ones, but still far from being the smallest. As a corollary, their operation is not, strictly speaking, minimal (smallest) access thyroid surgery, but rather mini (smaller) incision thyroid surgery; or simply, mini‐thyroidectomy in the same way that open cholecystectomy and open hernia repair with smaller wounds are referred to as mini‐cholecystectomy and mini‐hernia repair 6 .…”
