Miniaturised wideband folded bow-tie antenna

Abstract: Bow-tie antennas with folded elements are investigated. Simulations and measurements show that the lowest operation frequency (VSWR 2) is lowered by the addition of the folded elements. This means that antenna area can be reduced by 49% (with one folded element) and 71% (with two folded elements), if the lowest operation frequency is not changed.Introduction: It has been reported that folded loop antennas [1, 2] and planar folded dipole antennas [3, 4] exhibit wideband properties in excess of 50%. In these ant… Show more

“…By introducing the L-shaped coupling feed and the tuning stub to improve the impedance characteristics of the lower band and the upper band, respectively, the proposed antenna can achieve a wide operating bandwidth from 1.38 GHz to 3.14 GHz (about 77.8%) for VSWR 2. In particular, the size of the antenna is reduced by connecting the two folded elements to the patches of the bowtie dipole [11]. Owing to its wide bandwidth and compact dimension, the proposed antenna is very suitable for the recent indoor base station wireless communication.…”

“…Using the Γ‐shaped strip feed and the tuning stub to effectively improve the impendence matching, the proposed antenna can achieve an operating BW of about 58.6% ranging from 1.58–2.89 GHz (VSWR ≤ 1.5). In particular, compact dimension of the antenna is also obtained by the two folded elements connecting the patches of the bowtie dipole . With this compact dimension and the wideband characteristic, it is an excellent candidate for the recent wireless communication services for the indoor‐base station such as 3G, WiFi, WiMax, Bluetooth, and LTE, and so on.…”
