Due to the events caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing measures, learning management systems have gained importance, preserving quality standards, they can be used to implement remote education or as support for face-to-face education. Consequently, it is important to know how teachers and students use them. In this work, clustering techniques are used to analyze the use, made by university professors, of the resources and activities of the Moodle platform. The CRISP-DM methodology was applied to implement a data mining process, based on the Simple K-Means algorithm; to identify associated groups of teachers it was necessary to categorize the data obtained from the platform. The Apriori algorithm was applied to identify associations in the use of resources and activities. Performance scales were established in the use of Moodle functionalities, the results show the use made by teachers was very low. Rules were generated to identify the associations between activities and resources. As a result the functionalities that need to be enhanced in the teacher training processes were identified. Having identified the patterns of use of the Moodle platform, it is concluded that it was necessary to use a Likert scale to transform the frequency of use of activities and resources and identify the rules of association that establish profiles of teachers and tools that should be promoted in future training actions.

Exploring the Relationship between Saber Pro Test Outcomes and Student Teacher Characteristics in Colombia: Recommendations for Improving Bachelor’s Degree Education

This explanatory sequential mixed methods study explores the perceptions of academic and administrative managers responsible for teacher training at a public university in Colombia, as well as their views on improving such training after learning about the performance of teachers student teachers in the 2019 Saber Pro test, the differences in their test scores, and the relationships and statistical correlations between these outcomes and the students’ personal, family, socioeconomic and academic characteristics. Our findings show significant differences in the student teachers’ mean scores and performance when data are grouped according to personal, socioeconomic and academic conditions; a significant relationship between performance and student teacher characteristics; and correlations between critical reading scores and the other competencies assessed. Our data also highlight the lack of knowledge among academic and administrative managers about students’ life circumstances and the diversity of factors that may impact their performance; the importance of correlational data; the difference between expected and true outcomes; the inequity under which students seem to pursue their education; the limitations in access to resources; the training required for teachers to be able to analyze quantitative data and use specific software; the impact of teachers’ critical reading skills on student outcomes; the importance of data-driven decision-making; and the need for teachers to engage in quantitative research practices.

Nos es sumamente grato y honroso presentar las Actas del V Congreso Internacional de Investigación e Innovación de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Huanta 2022 que se realizó en noviembre pasado. Se presentaron en ese encuentro académico anual (que empezó el 2018) 35 ponencias. Pero solo siete investigaciones, 4 de la UNAH (una en colaboración con la de Huancavelica y la UNALM y otra solo gcon la primera) y de 3 de otras universidades (UNICA, UNALM y UTP), cumplieron los requerimientos para ser publicados en estas actas. Son investigaciones aplicadas a la agricultura (3), al ambiente (2), al turismo (1) y la organización laboral (1) de nuestra realidad lo cual muestra el interés en temas prácticos que puedan coadyuvar a la solución de problemas concretos. Las universidades públicas y privadas de nuestro país no deben dar las espaldas a la sociedad a la cual se deben. No deben investigar y publicar temas irrelevantes ajenos a su entorno. No se trata de publicar por publicar, incluso invitando a investigadores de otras casas de estudios, para estar en algún ranking nacional o internacional que demuestre que existen. Ni de solo registrar patentes sin invertir en su materialización y así usarse para lo que se idearon. Para lograr esto se necesitan autoridades competentes, sensibles a las necesidades del país que dirijan y estimulen las investigaciones, y que se relacionen más con la población a la que deben servir.
