A geochemical study was carried out to determine the geochemical characteristics of limestone in Wonosari-Punung Formation, and to suggest its depositional conditions and the source of rare earth elements. The study was conducted at Ponjong Area, Gunungkidul Regency, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, Indonesia. White limestone which contains more abundant calcite is characterized by the highest CaO concentration. Red limestone which is associated with impure minerals such as siderite, rodochrosite, hematite, and titanite is typified by depleted CaO but higher SiO 2 , Fe 2 O 3 , MnO, and TiO 2 concentrations. Grey limestone characterized by depleted CaO and higher MnO contents is considered to be influenced by the presence of impure minerals of manganite (Mn 2 O 3 .H 2 O) and/or pyrolusite (MnO 2). Depletion of Sr concentration in the coloured limestone indicates that the diagenetic process increases from the white limestone to the coloured limestone. The process possibly occurred post-deposition of the limestones. The limestones show positive Mn* values (2.46-2.95) and authigenic U values (0.89-3.38) that suggest an oxidative environment. The Ce/Ce* values (0.57-0.80), Eu/Eu* values (1.04-1.88), high Y/Ho ratio, and low La N /Yb N ratio are indications that the rare earth elements in the limestones were derived from terrigenous materials. The positive Eu anomaly and enrichment of Cr and Mn of the limestones are indications of hydrothermal fluid activity taking place in the studied area. Based on the geochemical characteristics of the Punung-Wonosari limestones, the depositional environment and the source of rare earth elements of the limestones were therefore influenced by a combination of hydrothermal fluid activity with small amount of terrigenous material input and post depositional diagenetic process.

The research area is a high karst area composed of carbonate rocks, where drought occurred almost every year. This study aimed to determine water availability in aquifer rocks by analyzing the surface geology and subsurface layers (geophysical method). We used the Schlumberger configuration in the geoelectric method at four locations in the study area to determine the resistivity value of the rocks beneath the surface. The results revealed that the site comprises tuff, crystalline limestone, layered limestone /chalky, and gravel to clay deposits. An aquifer was only found in Asem Lulang Village, which has a wedge layer with a thickness of 59 meters and thinned down to 5 meters towards the village of Ngalas Ombo. The value of the resistivity aquifer ranges from 0.18 to 9.18 ohm.m. The existence of that aquifer could indicate that the aquifer is only found in weakly undulated geomorphic units with a height difference of 12.5 meters and a slope of 5.86%. INTRODUCTIONThe water resource is the center of our lives. The supply of water is related to our daily living, either for domestic uses and for other purposes such as agriculture and industry. Water from groundwater sources requires good storage, that is, the aquifer.Gunung Kidul area has problems of drought and reduced water supply. BPBD Gunung Kidul recorded that 15 of its sub-districts suffer from water shortages. The drought has caused a deficit in both surface water and groundwater. The surface water in the karst area is found in some dry and wet dolinas (Damayanti et al., 2018), while the groundwater resides in the aquifer rocks. The debits of groundwater and spring in Ponjong area are very small and highly dissolved (Afitha et al., 2013). The poor aquifer condition causes a problem in the water supply. The aquifer condition in Gunung Kidul was studied by Uligawati et al. (2020) who found a deep aquifer.

Abstract. Calcite mineral is a mineral with a chemical composition of CaCO3 which can be found in a pure state or not. The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of the calcite mineral and recommend its use based on the physical properties of the calcite mineral in the research area, in order to improve the economy of the surrounding area and create employment opportunities. Tests were carried out to determine the characteristics of physical and chemical properties, namely physical properties testing to determine porosity, mass (original, saturated, dependent), weight (original, dry, saturated), apparent specific gravity, true specific gravity, original water content, saturated water content, degree of saturation and void ratio, as well as petrographic thin sections to determine pore type, variety and diagenetic products. Then testing the chemical properties to determine the composition and content of the calcite mineral being tested. In the research area, through testing the physical properties and testing the chemical properties of XRF, it can be seen the characteristics of the mineral calcite which is perfectly crystallized, has orthosparite cement in BGP-1 (10%) and BGP-2 (15%) with poor grain uniformity, fine grained. – medium, the porosity of GMP-01 (3.93%) and GMP-02 (3.25%) and the results of the void ratio of 0.04 cm3 and 0.03 cm3, this value indicates that the rock has a small cavity so that the volume is large. found small. For XRF, it is known that there is 55.84% CaO in the calcite mineral. Abstrak. Mineral kalsit adalah mineral dengan kompisi kimia CaCO3 yang dapat dijumpai dalam keadaan murni ataupun tidak. Adapun tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk menganalisis karakteristik mineral kalsit dan merekomendasikan untuk pemanfaatannya berdasarkan sifat fisik mineral kalsit di daerah penelitian, guna meningkatkan perekonomian daerah sekitar serta membuka lapangan kerja. Dilakukan pengujian untuk mengetahui karakteristik sifat fisik dan sifat kimiawi, yaitu pengujian sifat fisik untuk mengetahui porositas, massa (asli, jenuh, tergantung), bobot (asli, kering, jenuh), apparent specific gravity, true specific gravity, kadar air asli, saturated water content, derajat kejenuhan dan void ratio, serta sayatan tipis petrografi untuk mengetahui tipe pori, faries dan produk diagenesa. Kemudian pengujian sifat kimiawi untuk mengetahui komposisi dan kadar pada mineral kalsit yang di uji. Pada daerah penelitian melalui pengujian sifat fisik dan pengujian sifat kimia XRF, maka dapat diketahui karakteristik mineral kalsit yang terkristalisasi sempurna, memiliki semen orthosparit pada BGP-1 (10%) dan BGP- 2 (15%) dengan keseragaman butir yang buruk, berbutir halus – sedang, porositas GMP-01 (3,93%) dan GMP-02 (3,25%) dan hasil void ratio sebesar 0,04 cm3 dan 0,03 cm3, nilai ini menunjukan bahwa batuan tersebut memiliki rongga kecil sehingga volume yang didapatkan kecil. Untuk XRF diketahui terdapat 55,84% CaO dalam mineral kalsit tersebut.
