Mineral Element Contents in Commercially Valuable Fish Species in Spain

Abstract: The aim of this study was to measure selected metal concentrations in Trachurus trachurus, Trachurus picturatus, and Trachurus mediterraneus, which are widely consumed in Spain. Principal component analysis suggested that the variable Cr was the main responsible variable for the identification of T. trachurus, the variables As and Sn for T. mediterraneus, and the rest of variables for T. picturatus. This well-defined discrimination between fish species provided by mineral element allows us to distinguish them … Show more

“…The results obtained in Hg content analysis of the tissue samples are similar to the results of Keskin et al (2007) in common sole (0.329 µg/g); Erkan et al (2009) in scorpion fish (0.405-0.672 µg/g); Rivas et al (2014) in horse mackerel (0.146-0.204 µg/g).…”

“…was found in horse mackerel. The Cd content of sole, ranging from <0.001-0.233 µg/g and of horse mackerel ranging from 0.141 to 0.253 µg/g, was reported by Özden et al (2010) and Rivas et al (2014). However, this value was higher (for horse mackerel 3.58 µg/g, for scorpion fish 0.8 µg/g, for sole 0.38 µg/g than that reported by other authors (Aydın and Tokalıoğlu, 2015;Renieri et al 2014;Türkmen, 2011).…”

“…Usually, Zn and Fe are involved in the composition of multiple enzyme active centers and have direct or indirect effects on the synthesis of nucleic acids, proteins and the immune process [ 17 ]. Research shows that Fe is involved in hematopoiesis, which is an important component of heme iron in erythrocyte, and easily leads to anemia and other symptoms [ 18 ]. Zn deficiency can cause metabolic dysfunction and decreased immune functions, leading to infection by bacteria, viruses and fungi, growth retardation and premature and poor wound healing [ 19 , 20 ].…”

“…The mineral element contents of the crucian carp soup and snakehead soup before and after in-vitro digestion were collected in indirect effects on the synthesis of nucleic acids, proteins and the immune process [25]. Research shows that Fe is involved in hematopoiesis, which is an important component of heme iron in erythrocyte, and easily leads to anemia and other symptoms [26]. Zn deficiency can cause metabolic dysfunction, decrease immune function, cause infection by bacteria, viruses and fungi and growth retardation, premature and poor wound healing [27,28].…”
