MIMO Antenna Using Resonance of Ground Planes for 4G Mobile Application

Abstract: A MIMO antenna using the resonance of ground planes is proposed for 4G mobile application. A resonant mode is generated when the double ground planes (upper and lower) in the mobile terminal are excited as the radiator. By combining the resonant modes contributed from both the antenna element and the ground planes, the proposed MIMO antenna realizes a wideband property over LTE band 13. In addition, an inductive coil is employed to reduce the antenna volume. These approaches not only simplify antenna design bu… Show more

“…In MIMO system, multiantennas are used on both the transmitter and receiver sides. However, antennas should be placed within a space smaller than a half‐wavelength because the size of a recent mobile device is very small . In this case, antenna elements may electromagnetically couple to each other, and the signal flowing from one antenna to other antenna can cause strong signal correlation between the two channels.…”

“…While a four-port MIMO antenna was studied for the 700 MHz and 2,400 MHz dual-band MIMO system [9], it did not include other bands such as CDMA, GSM, DCS, PCS and WCDMA. In addition, an antenna using resonance of ground plane was proposed for wideband MIMO antenna [10]. However, it not only had a complicated structure, but also did not include the GSM band.…”
