“…However, in any case the detection sensitivity depends strongly on the affinity of the antibody used and the differential interactions between separated V H and V L chains in the presence or absence of the target. Moreover, as only one antibody is involved, OS-IA can suffer from cross-reactivity [84,85]. Suzuki et al [86] developed an OS-IA for the detection of ZEN by using the split Fvs (V H and V L chains) of a monoclonal anti-ZEN in phage display or fusion protein formats.…”

“…Although the developed immunoassay methods are excellent, they are used for detection of ZEN involving the use of ZEN itself, including the free form and the bound form (Li & Deng, 2016; Zhou, Liu, et al, 2021). Mycotoxin standards are also expensive.…”

“…Therefore, competing antigens or alternatively competing tracers should be introduced for mycotoxin immunoassays. 24 The competing reagents are always prepared by conjugating mycotoxins or their derivatives with carrier proteins through chemical synthesis, which showed the drawbacks of complex procedures, prolonged reaction periods, significant batch errors, and high costs. 25 In addition, the chemical binding efficiency is low because of bridge interference and many unnecessary cross reactions.…”

“…These assays are usually performed in the competitive format because mycotoxins are too small to be captured by two antibodies.
