Neutro-philic granulocytes are important in the organism's chain of defence mechanisms called physiological inflammation and are especially seen in the gastrointestinal mucosa, the respiratory tract, and the female genitals (Teir & Wikstrom 1969). The fact that the numbers of eosinophilic granulocytes are highest in these organs seems to suggest that they, too, in some way take part in this same defence mechanism.…”
