Millennial Work Ethic: A Preliminary Examination of the Work Ethic Profile of Filipino University Students

In general, millennials are perceived to be the “me” generation or “hero” generation. In addition, they are criticized as individuals who are self-centered, unmotivated, disrespectful, and disloyal (Myers & Sadaghiani, 2010). Given the conflicting and, to some extent, uncritical generalizations about the millennial cohort, … Show more

“…The previous relationships of justice and deontology on moral meaningfulness and those of moral meaningfulness towards CB and in-role performance allowed establishing a positive influence of in-role performance on academic achievement with a weight of 0.30 and a p-value < 0.05, thus confirming the H 9 hypotheses. According to the evidence, it is possible to contribute to the literature that a student who tends to judge according to justice and deontology will perform better as a student in academic achievement (Velasco & de Chavez, 2018). “…The other four analyse the relationship between ethics and teacher performance. Of the eight articles that investigated the relationship between ethics and academic performance, some identified a positive relationship between ethical sensitivity and academic performance (Lynagh et al, 2017;Stankovska et al, 2019;Yilmaz, 2016a), another identified a relationship between work ethics and organisational citizenship behaviours (OCB) of students (Meriac, 2012), another checked the relationship between ethics and academic achievement (Velasco & de Chavez, 2018), and other articles mention that a low level of academic achievement leads to ethical misconduct (Ghanem & Mozahem, 2019;Makarova, 2019). Finally, two studies of these eight reported a non-significant relationship between work ethics and academic achievement (Meriac, 2012(Meriac, , 2015.…”

“…Given their perceived pivotal influence, this article aims to comprehensively delve into the financial decision-making of Filipino millennials using aspects such as financial literacy, financial attitude, financial efficacy, and spending behavior through a quantitative approach involving data gleaned from self-administered survey questionnaires, analyzed through the SEM and CFA. As the existing body of literature with regard to the financial behavior of millennials often tackle constructs, such as financial literacy, financial attitude, and financial efficacy in isolation or through paired combinations, this study intends to address the observable gap by exploring these variables comprehensively in the context of spending [31][32][33][34][35][36][37][38].…”

“…Although it has enormous potential, it should be underlined that preparing Generation Y and Generation Z for the workforce in the future is not an easy challenge. Generation Y or millennials, for example, are a technology literate generation, skilled in multitasking but lacking ineffective communication and skills in life and career (Rezky et al, 2019;Velasco & de Chavez, 2018) As for Generation Z, according to Talmon (2019), in the future, they will tend to be more creative individuals than Generation Y but will have difficulty digesting material in the form of thick and long texts such as textbooks.…”
