Abstract: The red corpuscles, likewise, take part in maintaining neutrality. Although there are no authentic reports of movement of basic ions into or out of the red cells, numerous investigators have shown that there is a migration of acid ions from the plasma into the erythrocytes under conditions of increased acidity such as occurs with higher concentrations of carbon dioxid.
