Mild Hydrothermal Crystal Growth, Structure, and Magnetic Properties of Ternary U(IV) Containing Fluorides: LiUF 5, KU2F9, K7U6F31, RbUF5, RbU2F9, and RbU 3F13. -Uranium in (I) is reduced from U 6+ to U 4+ in the presence of Cu(OAc)2. The crystal structures of the synthesized ternary U IV fluorides are determined by single crystal XRD. (III) crystallizes in the tetragonal space group I4 1/a with Z = 16, (V) and (IX) in the orthorhombic space group Pnma with Z = 4, (VI) in the trigonal space group R3 with Z = 3, (X) in the monoclinic space group P21/c with Z = 8, and (VIII) in the orthorhombic space group Pmc21 with Z = 2. All the compounds show highly complex crystal structures ranging from two-dimensional to three-dimensional. The U 4+ cations occur in high coordination environments (UF 8 and UF9). The title compounds are further characterized by UV/VIS diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and magnetic measurements. -(YEON, J.; SMITH, M. D.; TAPP, J.; MOELLER, A.; ZUR LOYE*, H.-C.; Inorg.
