The first objective of this work is to determine some of the performance parameters characterizing the behavior of a particular photovoltaic (PV) panels that are not normally provided in the manufacturers' specifications. These provide the basis for developing a simple model for the electrical behavior of the PV panel. Next, using this model, the effects of varying solar irradiation, temperature, series and shunt resistances, and partial shading on the output of the PV panel are presented. In addition, the PV panel model is used to configure a large photovoltaic array. Next, a boost converter for the PV panel is designed. This converter is put between the panel and the load in order to control it by means of a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) controller. The MPPT used is based on incremental conductance (INC), and it is demonstrated here that this technique does not respond accurately when solar irradiation is increased. To investigate this, a modified incremental conductance technique is presented in this paper. It is shown that this system does respond accurately and reduces the steadystate oscillations when solar irradiation is increased. Finally, simulations of the conventional and modified algorithm are compared, and the results show that the modified algorithm provides an accurate response to a sudden increase in solar irradiation.

Summary Enhancement of photovoltaic (PV) system efficiency based on simple testing techniques is one of the most promising solutions. This is due to its low cost and easy implementation. This paper shows a way to develop applications based on a new method of operating the STM32F407‐VG board. Thereafter, the processor in the loop (PIL) test can easily be conducted. This method requires an FT232RL USB‐UART converter board as an external serial communication interface that can replace the frequently used internal STLink communication interface. The main advantage of this external device lies in the setting of its baud rate using the aliasing technique. This technique can provide an efficient solution to transfer data from the embedded board to the computer and vice versa at high baud rate. The PIL testing becomes faster and therefore more flexible. The studied case is a grid‐connected small scale PV system. The produced power from the PV generator (PVG) is injected into the grid. The incremental conductance (INC) algorithm‐based maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique is developed for extracting the maximum power from the PVG. The dq current control method is presented for the three phase voltage source inverter (3‐ph VSI). Further, a scenario of frequency changes in the grid is chosen in order to verify the phase‐locked loop (PLL) ability to track the grid phase angle. The simulation results under MATLAB/Simulink show the efficiency of both controllers and dynamic behavior of the full PV chain. Next, the proposed PIL test is performed by automatically generating the C code from both control algorithms using the Simulink features. This C code is implemented on the STM32F407‐VG board that acts as an external controller meanwhile the plant is still running on the host computer. The PIL test results show that the controllers simulated under MATLAB/Simulink behave in the same way once executed on the embedded board

This paper shows a new manner to exploit the STM32F407 board in order to perform the processor in the loop (PIL) testing by reducing significantly the co-simulation time. This method requires an FT232RL USB-UART converter board as an external serial communication interface. The main advantage of this external device lies in the setting of its baud-rate using the aliasing technique. This technique provides an efficient solution to transfer data between embedded board and computer at high baud-rate. It allows speeding up the PIL testing and, therefore, makes it more flexible. The studied grid connected wind-turbine system is based on permanent magnetic synchronous generator (PMSG) followed by back-to-back bidirectional converters. The grid side converter (GSC) ensures the DC bus voltage control as well as the unity power factor, while the machine side converter (MSC) ensures the PMSG speed control. The method of the decoupled current control is presented for the GSC. The optimum tip speed ratio (OTSR) algorithm-based maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique is developed for MSC. Both power and control parts are initially designed and simulated in the same MATLAB/Simulink
