Migration of a Kirschner Wire Into the Urinary Bladder: A Case Report

Abstract

Information actuality: The migration of Kirschner wires is the well-known complication described in sources of literature. Notwithstanding the fact that preventative measures against the migration of Kirschner wires are taken by orthopedic traumatologists in most cases, it does not the avoidance of the occurrence of this complication.
 Description of a clinical case: We presented the case of treatment of a female 70-year old patient with the asymptomatic migration of a Kirschner wire into the urinary bladder. It happened 5 years after the primary surgical intervention because of the left femoral neck fracture. The removal of a Kirschner wire from the urinary bladder with the further performance of the total endoprosthetic hip replacement was performed in the female patient. The surgical intervention proceeded without any complications. The female patient began to be involved in rehabilitation measures immediately after a surgery.
 Conclusion: The presented clinical case teaches us to be careful upon the performance of the osteosynthesis with the use of Kirschner wires and give much attention to measures aimed to the prevention of their fractures and their migration.
