Background: Both female reproductive hormones and childhood sexual abuse (CSA) are implicated in migraine and in menstrually related mood disorders (MRMD). We examined the association of migraine, including migraine with aura (MA), and history of MRMD or CSA. Methods: A total of 174 women (mean age 33.9 -7.6 years) in this cross-sectional study were evaluated for (1) current MRMD using prospective daily ratings; (2) history of CSA using structured interview; and (3) MA and migraine without aura using the International Classification of Headaches Disorders II criteria. Results: Ninety-six women met MRMD criteria (21 of whom had history of CSA) and 78 women were non-MRMD controls (16 with CSA histories). Migraine with aura was more prevalent in women with MRMD when compared to non-MRMD controls (11/88 and 0/86, respectively, p = 0.001). In MRMD women only, a CSA history was associated with higher MA rates (6/21 and 5/67, respectively, p = 0.019). A combination of current MRMD diagnosis and a history CSA was associated with increased risk for MA, even after adjusting for potential confounders (odds ratio = 12.08, 95% confidence interval 2.98-48.90, p < 0.001). Conclusions: Women with MRMD may be vulnerable to the development of MA, and a history of CSA in women with a MRMD appears to increase that vulnerability. MRMDs and MA should be included among other poor mental and physical health outcomes of an abuse history. Routine screening for abuse histories would potentially improve identification of women with increased risk of experiencing abuse-related disorders.

Derin beyaz cevher lezyonu (DBCL) görülme oranı kontrol grubuna göre daha yüksekti; bu fark istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bulundu (p=0,003). Periventriküler beyaz cevher lezyonu (PBCL) kontrol grubuna göre daha yüksek oranda görülmesine rağmen fark anlamlı değildi. Aurasız migreni olan hastalarda, auralı migreni olan hastalara göre, kraniyal manyetik rezonans görüntü-leme incelemesinde DBCL ve PBCL görülme oranı yüksek saptandı, fakat istatistiksel anlamlılık tespit edilmedi (p>0,05). Her üç psikiyatrik ölçekte (Hamilton Depresyon ve Anksiyete Derecelendirme Ölçeği; MOKSL) migren hastalarında puan ortalaması kontrol grubuna göre daha yüksekti. Ansiedade e Depressão em Pacientes Migranosos

RESUMOObjetivo. Determinar a prevalência de depressão maior e ansiedade generalizada em pacientes migranosos. Pretendemos, ainda, verificar se há diferenças significativas entre pacientes com migrânea com e sem aura e se há uma relação direta entre a coexistência de ansiedade e depressão e uma maior frequência da cefaléia. Método. Foram incluí-dos pacientes que preencheram os critérios da Sociedade Internacional de Cefaléia para migrânea, os critérios da DSM IV foram aplicados visando ao diagnóstico de ansiedade e depressão. Resultados. Foram avaliados 253 pacientes, sendo 46 com aura (18,18%) e 207 sem aura (81,82%). Depressão foi diagnosticada em 65 (25,7%) pacientes e ansiedade em 67 (26,5%), uma prevalência significativamente maior do que na população geral (p<0,001). Os pacientes com migrânea com aura têm uma chance maior de ter depressão e ansiedade quando comparado aos pacientes sem aura (odds ratio 1,5 e 1,8 respectivamente). Os pacientes com ansiedade, depressão ou ansiedade associada à depressão têm uma maior frequência de cefaléia do que os pacientes sem comorbidades psiquiátricas (odds ratio 1,4, 1,9 e 2,0 respectivamente). Conclusões. Sugerimos que ansiedade e depressão devem ser sistematicamente pesquisadas em pacientes migranosos, já que a prevalência dessas comorbidades nesses pacientes é bem superior do que na população geral. ABSTRACTObjective. To determine the prevalence of major depression and generalized anxiety in migraine patients and attempt to determine if exists a direct relationship between these comorbidities and a greater frequency of cephalalgia. Method. It were Included patients that met the criteria of the International Society of Cephalalgia for migraines, the criteria of DSM IV were applied for the diagnosis of anxiety and depression. Results. 253 migraine patients were evaluated. Depression was diagnosed in 65 (25.7%) patients and anxiety in 67 (26.5%), a significantly greater prevalence than that of the general population (p<0.001). Patients with anxiety, depression or anxiety associated with depression have a greater frequency of cephalalgia than patients without psychiatric comorbidities (odds ratio 1.4, 1.9 and 2.0 respectively). Conclusions. We concluded that anxiety and depression must be sistematically researched in migraine patients since the prevalence of these comorbidities in these patients is far superior than that of the general population.
