MidCloud: an agent‐based middleware for effective utilization of replicated Cloud services

Abstract: SUMMARYThe Cloud relies heavily on resource replication to support the demands of the clients efficiently. Replicated Cloud services are distributed across large geographic areas and are accessible via the Internet. This paper describes MidCloud; an agent-based middleware that provides Cloud clients with dynamic load balancing and fault tolerance mechanisms for effective utilization of replicated Cloud services and resources. MidCloud can be used to connect clients with multiple replicated Cloud services and p… Show more

“…How to utilize these new emerging non-volatile memories to optimize the storage performance and the energy consumption would be one future direction. Cloud computing has become a hot topic to be studied [68][69][70][71][72][73][74][75]. How to employ the classified application behaviors to optimize the cloud storage performance with this hot area would be an interesting topic to explore.…”

“…The broker layer consists of a Dynamic Resource Pool Manager that takes user specification as input, provisions the resources according to the specification, and monitors the resources after provisioning. Mohamed and Jaroodi [PS127] provide a middleware (MidCloud) for effective utilization of replicated cloud services and resources to reduce negative impact of dynamic service response delays. The layers consists of service registry that registers services on cloud, monitoring agents that monitor client applications and servers, and service adapters that adapt and deploy the services to minimize the delays.…”

“…In a similar way, the connections between agents and web services are very tight and have been studied for more than 15 years . Related proposals can be found in the recent autonomic and service‐oriented computing literature , where the system elements are named components rather than agents but exhibit basically the same features and raise the same challenges as agents, and in the cloud computing . Interestingly, a vast amount of literature addresses the relationships among all the three: agents, web services, and their semantics given by means of an ontology .…”
