“…36 The bands at 911, 793, 699 and 526 cm À1 corresponded to the stretching NJC Paper mode of distorted octahedral VO 6 and the band at 407 cm À1 was assigned to the bending mode of distorted octahedral VO 4 respectively. 24 Cu-V-1 displayed the stretching and bending modes of tetrahedral VO 4 (963, 854 and 394 cm À1 ), the shorter symmetrical V-O stretching mode (916 cm À1 ) and the long and short asymmetrical V-O stretching modes (789 and 553 cm À1 ), 41 which are characteristic vibrations of the Cu 2 V 2 O 7 phase.
