Abstract:We report about a technique to generate microwave radiation by the irradiation of a nonlinear optical crystal with uniformly spaced, ultrashort optical pulses delivered by a modelocked laser. By systematically studying the laser polarization and intensity dependence of the microwave signal it is possible to show that it is a nonlinear phenomenon and that it originates from optical rectification. We report in this work wide bandwidth detection of the generated microwave signals, achieved inside a coaxial copper… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
