Microwave-assisted synthesis of L-cysteine-capped nickel nanoparticles for catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol

Abstract: A simple and efficient microwave-assisted procedure for synthesis of L-cysteine-capped nickel nanoparticles (cyst-Ni NPs) in ethylene glycol solvent was demonstrated. The as-synthesised NPs were characterised by ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometer, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffractometry (XRD). The cyst-Ni NPs are proved to be excellent heterogeneous catalysts for the 100 % reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NPh) in the presence of r… Show more

“…The synthesis of metallic nanoparticles (NP) was carried out following a modified methodology from Kalwar et al [ 49 ]. Briefly, in a beaker, 9 mL of ethylene glycol, 0.6 mL of sodium alginate (10 mM) and 0.3 mL of NaCO 3 were added (0.1 M), mixed and the pH was adjusted at 11, 10 and 12.5 for copper, silver and gold nanoparticles synthesis, respectively.…”

“…Metal nanoparticles possess strange catalytic properties with tremendous increase in electron transfer ability and other properties due to their larger surface areas, various shapes and higher energies as compared to their bulk counterparts. They have the best capabilities to be functionalized with the help of capping agents like antibiotics, [17][18][19] drugs, 20 amino acids, 21 and so on.…”
