Microvessel and Lymphatic Vessel Density and VEGFR-3 Expression of Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma with Comparative Analysis of Clinicopathological Characteristics

Abstract: Background : This study was done to see if there were correlations between anatomic and molecular parameters such as microvessel density (MVD), lymphatic vessel density (LVD), and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR)-3 expression and various clinical parameters for papillary thyroid carcinomas of size > 1.0 cm (PTCs) and size ≤ 1.0 cm (papillary thyroid microcarcinomas, PTMCs). PTMCs were divided into two subgroups (0-5 mm and 6-10 mm). Methods : We analyzed 197 thyroid carcinomas including 113 … Show more

“…Areas with the highest concentration of microvessels (vascular hot spots) were selected in each biopsy specimen. In each selected area, five high-magnification fields ( × 400) were evaluated and the average of all counted microvessels (mean microvessel density) was calculated [ 17 ].…”

“…In the selected areas, the number of blood vessels was counted in 4 different ×400 magnification fields. The results were expressed as the average number of vessels per visual field [ 12 , 13 ].…”
