“…In our study, we described some special imaging findings in malignant breast tumors, including irregular shape, heterogeneous enhancement of contrast agents, surrounding and penetrating vessels, local perfusion, an increase in size after contrast agent administration, quantitative parameters such as shortened time to peak enhancement, and increased peak intensity. These features were consistent with the results of other studies (12,19,20).…”

“…24.0 + 10.5 mm before to 26.8 + 10.4 mm after contrast injection (P , 0.05). As to the time-intensity curve and quantitative parameters in the malignancies: the mean AT, TTP, PI were 11.9 + 4.3 s, 19.7 + 4.6 s, 5.5 + 3.0, respectively. Tables 1 and 2 summarize the CEUS enhancement characteristics and timeintensity curve parameters based on different histopathology of breast cancers.…”

“…Breast cancer is known to have a higher microvessel density than benign lesions. Special CEUS software exists that can analyze the dynamic vascular pattern, giving more information about the possibility of malignancy in a defined mass [18]. However, CEUS cannot easily distinguish malignant from benign reactive nodes.…”

“…In addition, the individual vessels are compromised, with larger inter-endothelial junctions, increased fenestrations, vesicles and vesicovascular channels and lack of normal basement membrane. These features result in lower perfusion rates (blood flow per volume), lower red blood cell velocity, heterogenous and chaotic blood flow around the tumor periphery, and a situation in which plasma oozes from the tumor periphery into the surrounding normal tissues [44]–[46]. These abnormalities in blood flow dynamics generate different temporally-varying conductivity environments than those associated with the benign breast.…”
