Microstructure modification by La2O3 and its effect on wear resistance properties of as-cast ZL107 alloy

Abstract: Modification of ZL107 aluminum alloy has been successfully achieved by using La 2 O 3 . The different casting parameters, including casting temperature as well as holding time and modifier content, were carried out to investigate the modification effects. The results show that the best modifier content is 1.0 wt.%, and the casting temperature has little effect. In addition, the wear behavior of modified and unmodified ZL107 has been compared. The wear resistance of as-cast ZL107 aluminum alloy can be significa… Show more

“…5 (b), the number and size of tiny holes eroded by acid solution inside the bar are large. This may be related to the way Zirconium alloy rods are processed [9][10][11][12]. 6 shows the internal and external weave composition of Zirconium alloy bar.…”

“…6, at the beginning of rotary forging, the external surface of the Zirconium alloy bar is subjected to compressive stress by the rotary forging abrasive, and the external surface of the bar is the first to undergo plastic deformation. With the increase of rotary forging deformation, bar strain gradually increases and is gradually transferred from the outside to the inside [10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17]. The cold and hot processing of the bar can change the disordered polycrystalline material into a preferentially oriented material, and elongate the grain, so that the insoluble impurities and the second phase inside the material are deformed.…”

“…Rare earth is widely used to improve the tribological performances of metals. 13,14 Wan 15 reported that the wear resistance of the ZL107 alloy was markedly improved by adding La 2 O 3 because it can refine silicon phase and help in the uniform silicon distribution, and the morphology of the silicon phase was seen to change from coarse flake to broken rod-like one. Miroslav et al 16 revealed that the tribological behavior of the ZA27 alloy was improved by heat treatment, which resulted in refined microstructure and uniform distribution.…”
