Microstructure and tribological properties of self-lubricating antiwear composite coating on Ti6Al4V alloy

Abstract: Self-lubricating antiwear composite coatings were fabricated on Ti6Al4V alloy by laser cladding. The dry sliding wear tests under various temperatures (ambient temperature, 3508C and 7008C) and normal loads (3, 6, 9 and 12 N) were accomplished, and the corresponding wear mechanisms were investigated. Results show that the composite coating presented lower friction coefficient at ambient temperature and 7008C, and the wear rate increased monotonously from ambient temperature to 7008C. The reasons are that the h… Show more

“…It was observed that the wear resistance and micro-hardness property of the coating were enhanced due to the presence of C 3 N 4 , B 13 C 2 , and TiCN phases. Ren et al [11] fabricated anti-wear composite coating on titanium alloy and found the formation of some phases like TiC, TiWC 2 , CrS, Ti 2 CS, etc., which owing friction-reducing effect.…”

“…Many investigations [32][33][34][35] revealed that erosion resistance is very much influenced by the impingement angle, particle characteristics and morphological features, coating hardness and microstructure, involvement of high temperature adopted during erosion tests. Researchers have worked on Cr 3 C 2 -25NiCr and WC-NiCrBSiFe-based coatings on SS steels for room temperature conditions.…”

“…Feng et al [21] indicated that the cutting force and cutting temperature could be significantly reduced when a textured tool was used. As a conclusion, the textures on the tool surface can effectively reduce the tool-chip contact surface, reduce cutting temperature and cutting force, store lubricant, improve the contact state, and decrease the adhesion phenomenon [22][23][24][25]. However, the effect of sinusoidal textures and rhombic micro textures of tools on the cutting performance of titanium alloy is still unclear, which is necessary to be studied to further improve the cutting efficiency and surface quality of titanium alloy.…”
