Microstructure and Properties of Densified Gd2O3 Bulk

Abstract: In this work, Gd2O3 bulks were sintered at temperatures ranging from 1400 °C to 1600 °C for times from 6 h to 24 h, and their microstructure and properties were studied for a wider application of materials in thermal barrier coatings. The densification of the Gd2O3 bulk reached 96.16% when it was sintered at 1600 °C for 24 h. The elastic modulus, hardness, fracture toughness and thermal conductivity of the bulks all increased with the rise in sintering temperature and extension of sintering time, while the coe… Show more

“…The results indicated that the densities for both composites increased with increasing filler contents and that the Sm 2 O 3 /UHMWPE composites had slightly higher densities than those of the Gd 2 O 3 / UHMWPE composites at the same filler content. These results were due to the much higher densities of the Sm 2 O 3 and Gd 2 O 3 composites than for UHMWPE (ρ Sm2O3 , ρ Gd2O3 , and ρ UHMWPE are 8.43 g/cm 3 , 7.39 g/cm 3 , and 0.94 g/cm 3 , respectively 31,32 ), resulting in higher masses for the UHMWPE composites compared to the pristine sample at a given volume. at the same content of 20 wt% Sm 2 O 3 ) (95% confidence level).…”
