This paper featured a study on undoped and Indium doped Gadolinium oxide Gd2O3: In thin films, elaborated on a glass substrates at temperature of 500 °C by homemade Spray Pyrolysis technique, at different Indium concentrations as follow 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 at %. This thin layers, where a subjects to a numerous characterization techniques to study the effect caused by introducing the dopant element “Indium” in Gadolinium oxide lattice on the structural properties (X-Ray Diffraction and Raman spectroscopy) and optical properties. The structural characterization carried by the X-ray diffraction (XRD) reveals a polycrystalline Monoclinic B-type structure for all Gd2O3:In thin films. Moreover, these findings are verified by the Raman spectroscopy results. Concerning the optical properties of our thin films, the optical measurements carried by UV-VIS-NIR spectrophotometer shows an increase in the transmittance value within the visible region [370-900 nm] and in the band gap energy value by raising Indium doping rate from 0 at % to 6 at %, also the disorder caused inside the thin films were estimated by the Urbach equation. That said, the 2 at % Indium doped gadolinium oxide thin film provides interesting results that can be applied in solar cells as an optical window material.

Metal/metaloxide based composite materials have wide spread applications in electrochemical sensors and fuel cell applications. Hence, the present work is directed towards the fabrication of cost effective and highly sensitive electrode material for cysteine sensing. In this work, Co-Gd 2 O 3 nanocomposite is prepared by a simple electrodeposition route and used as electrochemical sensor material. The prepared nanocomposite materials are characterized using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Xray Diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and X-ray Photo electron spectroscopy (XPS). SEM images exhibited as hierarchical nanoflakes with open porous structure. EDX analysis showed the presence of cobalt and gadolinium. The reflections at 2q = 33 0 and 35.7 0 corresponds to the cubic structured Gd 2 O 3 nanoparticles validated the formation of nanocomposite. Electrooxidation of L-cysteine on Co and Co-Gd 2 O 3 was carried out using cyclic voltammetry technique. Upon addition of certain concentration of cysteine, the anodic peak current get increased with the simultaneous decline in the cathodic peak currents displayed the excellent electrocatalytic activity of Co-Gd 2 O 3 nanocomposite. The chronoamperometric experiments were performed to derive the analytical parameters like sensitivity, limit of detection and linear range. In this paper bilayer thin films of 10CGO/8YSZ electrolyte with enhanced O2- conductivity composed of gadolinia doped CeO2 (Ce0,9Gd0,1O2-) and yttria stabilized zirconia 8 mol% Y2O3 doped ZrO2 layers were deposited by Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) using various numbers of pulses. This composite has supplementary function in electrochemical devices because 10 CGO can act as interdiffusion barrier with cathode materials. The structure and morphology of these thin films, having thicknesses smaller than 1µm, were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The XRD patterns exhibit cubic fluorite structure with a sharp (111) peak. The grain size was found to depend on the thickness. Optical characterization was carried out by spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE) using the Tauc-Lorentz model.
