Microstructure and Mechanical Properties Investigation of New Al10Cr12Mn28Fe(50-x)Ni(x) High Entropy Alloys

Abstract: In the present study, two newly developed non-equiatomic high entropy Al10Cr12Mn28Fe(50-x)Ni(x) alloys (x= 20 & 15 at%, namely: Ni20 & Ni15, respectively) are investigated. The studied HEAs were designed based on thermodynamic principles to maintain high ductility and improve strength. Ingots were prepared using arc-melting then microstructure examinations and mechanical properties for the as-cast alloys were done. The mechanical properties were enhanced for the as-cast material, compared with previous… Show more

“…4. The homogenization treatment and subsequent hot-rolling deformation significantly demoted the initial cast structure (i.e., columnar dendritic morphology), which commonly appears in as-cast HEAs [41,42] as a grain structure. The features of the hot-rolled grain structure, such as the grain and annealing boundaries, are clearly visible, as shown in Fig.…”

“…Fe 35 Ni 20 Cr 12 Mn 28 Al 5 HEA is considered one of the low-cost single-phase HEAs with an FCC phase structure and moderate mechanical properties (Elkatatny et al , 2018). Substituting Mn with Al by 5 At.% and cold rolling were used to improve its properties (Elkatatny et al , 2019; Abdelghany et al , 2020). Therefore, the current study aims to investigate the influence of Al content and the cold rolling impact on the corrosion behavior of Fe 35 Ni 20 Cr 12 Mn 28 Al 5 HEA in 1 M H 2 SO 4 .…”

“…Another study for the same HEA system revealed a strengthening approach 5 at.-% Mn with Al while maintaining the ductility and the single FCC phase structure [24]. In a further study, the same alloy system was strengthened by substituting Ni with Al and by substituting Fe with Al [25]. Both approaches for solid solution strengthening showed high compressive work hardening rates; however, the yield strength was moderate with an average of 330 MPa.…”
