Microstructural Simulation of Ion-Irradiated Natural Rocks and Minerals

Abstract: This report details the contribution of Oak Ridge National Laboratory to the Nuclear Energy University Program (NEUP) project, "Rapid Characterization of Concrete Mineralogy using Multi-Scale Tools" led by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. To support the subsequent license renewal (SLR) of the US nuclear power plants (NPPs) fleet, the performance of concrete-forming aggregates against neutron irradiation needs to be assessed.
