Microstructural and electrochemical analysis of Sb 2 O 5 doped-Ti/RuO 2 -ZrO 2 to yield active chlorine species for ciprofloxacin degradation

Abstract: A Sb 2 O 5 doped-Ti/RuO 2-ZrO 2 (Ti/SbRuZr) electrode is used to perform the abatement of ciprofloxacin (CIP, C 17 H 18 FN 3 O 3). The catalyst was prepared using the Pechini method, and subsequently characterized by XRD, SEM-EDS, EIS and CV. The microstructural analysis of Ti/SbRuZr shows the formation of RuO 2 (P4 2 /mnm) and ZrO 2 (P2/m) crystalline phases, with an average crystallite size about twice (61.2 nm) lower than Ti/RuO 2 (109 nm). Additionally, SEM micrographs reveal that ZrO 2 affects the morphol… Show more

“…On the other hand, n1 was found to be close to 0.7, lowering down when increasing the overpotential. An EIS study conducted under similar experimental conditions (i. e. applied potential, electrolyte) but using a Ti/RuO 2 catalyst deposited via Pechini method reported n values around 0.95, and R1 values of 6600 and 63 Ω cm 2 for 1.2 and 1.3 V, respectively . It is evident that this increase of resistance and deviation from ideal capacitance in the RuO 2 formed with the MWAS is associated with the impregnation method on Ti, which generates a heterogeneous distribution and inadequate adherence of the nanoparticles onto Ti.…”
