Microshear bond strength of Nano-Bond adhesive containing nanosized aluminum trioxide particles

Abstract: OBJECTIVES:The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of nanosized aluminum trioxide (Al2O3) particles when added to the Nano-Bond adhesive system and its effect on the microshear bond strength of nanocomposite resin to dentin.MATERIALS AND METHODS:A newly developed adhesive (Nano-Bond) and one type of light-cured resin restorative material (nanocomposite resin) were used in this study. The occlusal surfaces of extracted human molar teeth were ground perpendicular to the long axis of each tooth to … Show more

“…[ 3 4 5 ] Several solutions have been proposed to minimize bracket deboning, including aluminium oxide sandblasting of the bracket base and the use of primers. [ 6 13 14 ] In addition, a study has shown that adding nano bond adhesive resin improves the mechanical properties and the marginal and internal seal of composite restorations. [ 15 ] This occurs because of changes in the stress dynamics at the interface between the enamel and resin, which reduces crack initiation and propagation.…”

“…[ 3 4 5 ] However, the addition of nano bonding agents can improve the adhesion properties of composite resins. [ 6 ] Recently, multiple bonding agents have been developed, including antibacterial adhesives to inhibit the bacterial biofilm accumulation at the bracket margins. [ 7 8 ] Antibacterial adhesives are promising to combat bacteria and reduce recurrent caries at the tooth-restoration margins.…”

“…In this scenario, the use of nanosized fillers increases the penetration of resin monomers and the hybrid layer thickness, which in turn improves the mechanical properties of the bonding systems: i.e., Futurabond M VOCO tolerates residual moisture due to its hydrophilic properties that is beneficial in cases of poor moisture control. Integration of nanotechnologies in adhesive systems facilitates the micro shear bond strength as well [50].…”

“…The addition of unstructured nanoscaled calcium phosphate and silver particles in the adhesives improved the material's bond strength and had a positive antimicrobial action (50). The adhesives' microshear bond strength was demonstrated by the aluminum oxide http://dx.doi.org/10.52533/JOHS.2022.21209 addition (52). The microshear binding strength of the adhesives incorporating magnetic nanoparticles was good, and they penetrated the dentin more effectively (53).…”
