The gene networks for the Th2 cytokines IL-4 and IL-13, like the Th1 responses of IFN-g, showed more activation for the healthy subjects than the asthmatic and more activation by RV-A compared to RV-C peptides. CONCLUSION The gene networks activated showed that susceptibility to asthma exacerbation was not associated with heightened responses to T-cell epitopes or a greater contribution of Th2 responses but rather qualitatively similar but lower Th1 responses. This might reduce virus clearance.
