Microscopic Oil and Water Percolation Characteristic Investigation of Water Flood Reservoir in Ultrahigh Water Cut Period

Abstract: Most of the water flood reservoirs in China, such as Shenli Oil Field and Daqing Oil Field have entered into an ultrahigh water cut period. The study of remaining oil percolation characteristics under microscopic pore scale plays an important role in enhanced oil recovery for ultrahigh water cut period water flood reservoirs. In this paper, glass etching microscopic model experiments and computer image processing & recognition techniques are combined to reclassify the microscopic remaining o… Show more

“…Such resolution is obviously missing in the experiment where it is impossible to distinguish the specific role played by JNP for various remaining oil types (clustered, columnar, droplet, etc. [51]). As such, simulations of this kind provide the possibility for the refined interpretation of the EOR mechanism of JNP.…”

“…The oil is mainly strip-shaped, and the remaining oil in other forms is very small, especially for island-shaped and film-shaped remaining oil. The remaining oil in foam flooding is mainly strip-shaped and network-shaped, and the remaining oil forms are distributed, but the overall amount is small [22][23][24][25].…”

“…With the development of mature oilfields by water flooding in China, excess water production problems have gradually arisen from the heterogeneity of continental sedimentation oil reservoirs [1][2][3][4][5]. For example, the comprehensive water cut of Daqing oilfield has exceeded 95% now.…”
