Microscopic and pharmacognostic standardization of Astragalus scorpiurus Bunge

Abstract: The aim of the current study was to assess and compare the microscopic and pharmacognostic features of the selected parts of Astragalus scorpiurus Bunge. It is an annual and prostrate herb. Anatomy of leaves, stem, and root depicted a typical dicot structure. It will provide information regarding standardization and authentication. The powder drug study (Light Microscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy) revealed the presence of xylem and phloem vessels, epidermal fragments, cortical cells, fibers, parenchyma … Show more

“…By identifying the structural properties of plant components, microscopy enables a more thorough investigation of crude drug. Uza and Dastagir (2021) emphasized the importance of anatomy in detecting adulterants and pollutants in herbal medications and providing tools for assessing the authenticity and quality control of crude pharmaceuticals. For this reason, we can say that studying the morphology and micrometry of the chosen plant parts has given us a better knowledge of the species within the same genus (Bekoe et al, 2020).…”

“…Even minute objects that are tightly spaced may be identified because of the excellent resolution. There has been a significant rise in the magnification of objects since traditional lenses were replaced with electromagnets (Uza & Dastagir, 2021). SEM's characteristics make it suitable for modern taxonomic research of plants and is used t characterize the micromorphological characteristics of herbal medications.…”

“…To control the quality of raw medications, the WHO has proposed a set of standards. An essential method used to obtain standardization of species products is microscopy (Rashid et al 2018;Majid et al 2021;Uza & Dastagir 2022). For the pharmacognostic standardization of medicinal plants, light microscopy is often used to describe the architecture and histochemistry of a plant (Rosa et al 2021;Abbas et al 2022;Uza & Dastagir 2022).…”

For the pharmacognostic standardization of medicinal plants, light microscopy is often used to describe the architecture and histochemistry of a plant (Rosa et al 2021;Abbas et al 2022;Uza & Dastagir 2022). According to Gissi et al (2022) and Marques et al (2022), anatomy and histology are essential for identifying and resolving taxa within a complex species at the species and generic levels.…”
